Can you return an Audible book?

Quick answer

The purchase method and membership status decide it.

Audible says its self-service returns option is for active Audible Premium members in good standing who bought a title with an Audible credit and are within 365 days of the purchase date. A return is not automatic or guaranteed: Audible says it may limit returns or revoke return privileges at its discretion. If the title was bought through a different store, the return must use that store's support process.

Eligibility

Check these three conditions before looking for the return button.

1. You have an active Premium membership in good standing. Audible says members who cancel or do not maintain eligible membership status cannot make returns through this option.
2. You used an Audible credit to buy the title. Audible lists credit purchase as an eligibility requirement. Do not assume that a cash purchase, an included Plus Catalog title, or a title acquired through another storefront follows the same path.
3. The purchase was made within the last 365 days. Audible measures the return window from the purchase date. Check Purchase history rather than estimating from when you started listening.

Eligibility does not promise a self-service return. Audible says the option can be unavailable based on return history, and it can change the return terms. If the button is not shown, use Audible's support options rather than treating the absence as proof that a return is possible or impossible.

How to return it

Use a browser, not the Audible app.

Audible says titles cannot be returned directly from its app. On a phone or computer, sign in at Audible's website, open Purchase history, find the title, select Return this title, and confirm. On mobile, that means using a browser such as Safari or Chrome rather than the Audible app.

If the title was purchased through Google Play, Audible says the return must go through Google Play customer service. The same principle applies to the purchase channel: start with the account or storefront that handled the transaction.

After a return

A successful credit return restores one credit.

Audible says that after you confirm an eligible return, one credit is added back to your account. Its return article says refunded credits expire 12 months after issue. Because Audible's broader credit guidance describes exceptions for some App Store and Google Play credits, check your individual Credit Summary for the date that applies to your account.
